MLSE Eyes Tottenham

It has recently been reported that Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE) has interest in acquiring the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club of the English Premier League.
According the Guardian, club Chairman Daniel Levy is asking £400 million for the club, while Richard Peddie and MLSE are offering £250 million.
The Guardian’s report comes just days after Rick Westhead of the Toronto Star broke the story that a group of MLSE execs had gone to the UK on an information gathering tour of various stadiums and events.
While any speculation of the MLSE acquiring an EPL club appears to be extremely premature, it should not come as a surprise if a deal is to be completed in upcoming months. While often criticized, it is difficult to dispute MLSE’s ability to manage a brand, and leverage that brand power in order to generate handsome profits.
This will be an interesting story to follow in coming weeks as MLSE attempts to diversify their asset base, and apply their business model to the world of European soccer.
